“Get ‘er done” he said
And he said what he meant
And he meant what he said
And he did as God led.
“Get ‘er done” he said
And he went where help was needed
And through his words with action
God’s love and Good News was spread.
“Get ‘er done” he said
Joyfully baptizing believers
Tirelessly visiting the hurt, sick and frail
Happily marrying those ready to wed.
“Get ‘er done” he said
And he said what he meant
And he meant what he said
And he did as God led.
“Get ‘er done” he said
Though a pastor’s work is never done
He carried on; from hard work
and conflict he never fled.
“Get ‘er done” he said
Whether the Hopi or Ethiopia
From McDonald’s to Mexico
His touch was widespread.
“Get ‘er done” he said
And he said what he meant
And he meant what he said
And he did as God led.
“Get ‘er done” he said
Then, suddenly, without warning
Gone – Pastor Rick is dead.
Many hearts stunned in sorrow
Many tears have been shed.
“Get ‘er done” he had said.
We’ll never hear him say it again.
But we can remember
That mantra in his stead.
“Get ‘er done” he had said.
And he said what he meant
And he meant what he said
And he did as God led.
“Get ‘er done” he had said.
Those 3 little words should
Inspire and guide us
In the days, months and journeys ahead.
“Get ‘er done” he had said
And, welcomed into the eternal kingdom
A faithful son and servant,
Following the footsteps his Savior had tread.
By reaching out to ALL people
No matter time, place or life station
He knew it was for all that Christ had bled.
“Get ‘er done” he had said
And he said what he meant
And he meant what he said
And he did as God led.
And God welcomed him home
With a smile barely hid
saying “Get ‘er done, Rick,
Yup, that you sure did!”

This Spring & Summer series is entitled: “Q & A Time with Jesus”
“What do you think about the Christ?”
Matthew 22:42
Have you ever noticed or asked why it was that Jesus asked so many questions during His earthly ministry?
I was amazed to discover that Jesus asks more questions than He answers. It seem that if Jesus asks a question the answer must be very important. Jesus didn’t ask questions because He didn’t know the answers, but rather he wanting us to discover the answers for ourselves. But He didn’t let us solely on our own in this but sent His Spirit to daily remind and guide us in this most important quest. He knew that our personal ‘Destiny and destination’ for all eternity would depend upon these questions and our responses to them.
This remaining spring and summer we will spend the time and energies seeking answers to what Jesus desires for those whom God loved enough to send His Son to die for and then send His Spirit to reveal to us in their discovery.
Pastor Rick
Instead of going away for a retreat in 2017, we decided to spend all day on a Saturday at the church enjoying lots of different activities together including hiking to the river, competing in rounds of Corn Hole, putting a puzzle together, playing board games, eating delicious food, assembling care kits to hand out to the homeless in our community, putting on crazy hats and playing “Mad Hatter” Bunco, and enjoying an indoor fireside in the church lobby. We our church family!
In 2016 Fall Retreat was held at Drift Creek Camp located in the coastal mountains outside of Lincoln City. The camp “provides a vibrant setting among ancient spruce & hemlocks. Guests can renew mind, body, and spirit with access to miles of forest trails and the refreshing sounds of a cleansing stream.” www.driftcreek.org
The Theme was:
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.” [Proverbs 3:5-6]
Retreat was a time to get away from the distractions and busyness of daily living and spend time enjoying God’s creation and fellowship with others. There was plenty of free time, as well as time set aside for worship and focusing on the theme for the weekend.
Activities included a silent auction, board games, ping pong, a camp fire on Saturday night, sitting and relaxing, going for a walk in the woods or along the stream, reading, Sunday morning worship, and of course enjoying the delicious meals prepared by the camp.
The Community Picnic was a highlight of the summer. The picnic was held at a beautiful lake property owned by one of our church family members. Members of the community and our church family enjoyed a lovely August evening together along with delicious potluck food, corn on the cob (cooked in a cooler!), and we were blessed with a beautiful sunset to see us back to our homes. The event was enjoyed so much that the plan is to do it again next year. Who knows…maybe it will become an annual event!
Ever wonder what it would be like to attend a worship service on the beach? If so, maybe you will want to join us next year for Preach at the Beach! This year’s event was enjoyed by all who attended. The morning started out in a thin blanket of fog with a slight mist in the air. The service opened with prayer and Scripture readings along the theme of Christ, our peace. At each mention of the word, “Peace”, the listeners were asked to clap twice to help them focus on the theme for the day. After a time of singing, both acapella and also accompanied at times by a ukulele, tambourine and a make shift drum (5-gallon bucket), Pastor Rick shared a challenging message of how knowing Christ is the only way to have true peace and the assurance of eternal life in Heaven. By the time the worship service ended, the clouds had rolled away and the sun came out to warm things quite nicely. The fog magically disappeared revealing a magnificent view of the ocean. After the service we enjoyed a potluck lunch, which was also held on the beach. A sand sculpture contest soon ensued in keeping with the “Peace” Sunday Theme. Young and older, alike, participated in bringing their unique sand creations to life. The weather was mild, with very little wind which made for a lovely day at the beach.
On Sunday, June 14, 2015, The Bethel Mountain Band performed during the morning worship time. The service was held outside at Serene Acres down by the Willamette River. All who attended enjoyed the picturesque view of the river as the band sang their Gospel bluegrass songs about heaven and the wonderful grace of our Lord. A potluck meal followed the service. Special thanks to The Bethel Mountain Band for their ministry of music.
